Pay Per Click Advertising (PPC)

Pay Per Click (PPC) is an internet advertising model where the advertiser pays only when their advert or link is clicked on.

One of the most common forms of PPC advertising is Google AdWords. Here, a relevant text ad with a link to a company page is displayed when the user of a search engine types in a specific phrase. These are the ‘sponsored results’, which appear at the top and right of the search engine results pages (SERPS). A fee is charged for every click of each link, with the amount bid for the click and its Quality Score determining its position.

Advantages of Pay Per Click

-    Immediate results. With PPC, your ad will be visible on the search result page once your PPC campaign with either Google, Yahoo or MSN goes live.
-    Geographical targeting. A key benefit of using PPC advertising is that you can target your audience geographically. For example, if you wanted to target visitors from the UK only, your campaign can be set to display to UK searchers only resulting in highly qualified visitors to your website.
-    Control, flexibility and measurability. The ability to set and adhere to campaign budgets is an attractive feature of PPC advertising. Pay per click campaigns can also be adjusted in real time, with poorly performing elements revised or removed and the campaign budget adjusted according to the results achieved.
-    Branding. Even if searchers do not click on your ad, it will still be displayed within the SERPS. As you only pay per click, and not per display, you will have gained free exposure.
