The Brief:Graphic Alliance partnered with TankForm to develop the new Vivienne Westwood eCommerce website. The project involved creating an online portal for Vivienne Westwood housing everything from their entire creative history since the 1970s through to the latest collections available to buy in the web shop. The brief was to create a unique and extraordinary online experience loaded to the gunwales with Westwood attitude.
Project Notes:Vivienne Westwood is no ordinary Fashion label, it is a unique cultural phenomenon of global impact with roots that spread wide outside the confines of the fashion industry. The brand has a language that is rich in vocabulary and connects to politics, popular culture, music and social action. Vivienne played a vital role in the emergence of Punk Rock in the 1970s and has gone on to become one of the most original and influential designers of our time. Fashion, she said, was “a baby I picked up and never put down.” Her designs combine a fearless unconformity with a sense of tradition. She is renowned for her gentle parody of Establishment styles, her use of very British fabrics such as Harris tweed and tartan and her re-use of historic garments such as the corset and crinoline. Yet she has always had a practical approach driven by a curiosity about how things work, a process she describes as ‘learning through action’.
The Result:Revenue is up 66% on Vivienne Westwood’s previous eCommerce site and the site continues to grow rapidly. A brand new Chinese eCommerce site has been created to meet growing demand in the Far East. The unusual and innovative user experience could not be handled by an off-the-shelf eCommerce platform and therefore Graphic Alliance’s development team build a system from the ground up.
