Luxury e-commerce website
The Brief: Since 1769 Debrett’s has been the de facto recorder of British society and the trusted source on social skills, etiquette and style. Graphic Alliance was engaged to design and build a new luxury e-commerce website to house the profiles of in excess of 24,000 ‘People of Today’ and over 8,000 pages of expert advice and guidance on the social season, British etiquette, wedding planning and corporate training. Specifically all the UX and design work had to be responsive to desktop, tablet and mobile. The website also had to integrate with Salesforce CRM and Magento e-commerce for the shopping functionality.
Project Notes: The Debrett’s website had to achieve a number of different goals. The ‘People of Today’ database of 24,000 notable people needed to be digitised and fully searchable. The website was required to clearly communicate the Debrett’s professional and corporate training services. The content that earns Debrett’s over 200,000 unique visitors every month needed to be organised and presented seamlessly across the online presence. The range of reference books, from the printed ‘People of Today’ to the definitive ‘Wedding Guide’, needed to be integrated into Magento e-commerce and made available online. Finally all of the seasonal calendar-style content needed to be shown in a digestible and engaging format online.
The Result: The new Debrett’s site presents the brand in a thoroughly modern and yet timeless manner, combining classic graphic design work with the latest in technology. The content-rich site – powered by Drupal for the content pages and Magento for the product pages – is user-friendly and intuitive despite its relative size. In the six months since launch of the new luxury e-commerce site the time spent on the site per visit, or average session duration, is up 25% which is testament to the new user experience.
