Setting up shop

The topic of monetizing any social media activity is spoken about regulatory at GA HQ – in fact, we’ve written quite a few blog posts about it too (see ‘How to… Monetize your Facebook fanpage‘ and ‘A little bit of give and take‘). And now there’s another way of monetizing your facebook page…

Take a look at Temperley London’s facebook page , click on the ‘Store’ tab and you’ll see a page that acts as a shop front to the Temperley online shop – directly from Facebook.

Temperley London Facebook Store

Of course, Temperley aren’t the first brand to embrace this idea (brands have been using FBML (Facebook Markup Language) in Facebook to modify pages for a while now). However, what’s so clever about the Temperley Store page is that website and social media administrators at Temperley do not need any knowledge of HTML or FBML in order to modify the page.

In fact, this page is created and controlled entirely through their CMS. So, if they wanted to change their hero product, layout of the page or link through to a specific product instead of to category pages, they could do this quickly and easily in house.

Although it seems as though Facebook will be launching a payment platform very soon, this is currently not available and (for many reasons) may not be right for them in the future anyway. So, for Temperley London, this method of directing Facebook users straight to purchase on the website is  a perfect way of monetizing their page quickly and efficiently.

The wonders of WordPress

Just in case you didn’t know, WordPress is an open source project (which, put simply, means it’s free and has hundreds of people working on it from all corners of the globe) that can be used for anything – from your own personal blog to a fully functional, professional looking website.

Back in 2003, WordPress started as a blogging system, but has now evolved into a content management system (a.k.a. CMS) where almost anything can be made possible thanks to a wealth of different plugins, widgets and themes. In fact, just one look at some of our previous work will demonstrate to you how much WordPress can be manipulated and how versatile it can be.

Take, for instance, Because Magazine – the digital fashion magazine from the people behind Tank. It’s a high end, click to buy fashion magazine that simply oozes cool in a suitably unobtrusive manner. Since its launch back in September 2009, Because Magazine has been hailed in the press and most memorably described as “high-end fashion pornography… that makes me want to rob a bank while simultaneously winning the lottery” (NMA site of the week, 8th October 2009). We also got the chance to tell .net magazine all about the bespoke functions such as the wishlist, login and personal profiles which were made possible through extensively modified plugins to match the design and requirements of the website.

Because Magazine

Or, for something a little different, why not take a look WOW Toys, who wanted a fully immersive brand experience built using an open source CMS. This site also received some brilliant coverage and featured on makebetterwebsites.com, bestcssgallery.com, welovewp.com and designshack.co.uk – to name but a few!

Nevertheless, flexible it may be, WordPress is not a full featured CMS (like the Graphic Alliance CMS). As a simple CMS it works brilliantly – search engines love it, it’s easy to use, and it looks great. However, if you’re after a database of information or a site which can hold all sorts of different content, then you will need to look further than WordPress which is, after all, just a blogging platform.

Even so, we can’t fault WordPress and love the power, flexibility and amazing community behind it!

Breaking world records – just an average day at the office

It’s great working in Covent Garden. The atmosphere is fervent, bustling, and there’s always something random going on. You literally never know what’s going to happen. Typical example of this – when I walked into work this morning, I could never have guessed that less than three hours later, I would be breaking a world record.

Yes, you heard right. Today, I broke a world record.

Don’t believe me, well here’s the proof:

So, as you can hopefully see from my great Nokia phone film footage, I broke a record for “the most amount of people in one place simultaneously flipping a coin”.

Nice.

And the point of this? Well, this PR stunt world record attempt was the brainchild of agency Taylor Herring to promote a new Channel Five series called Heads or Tails.

Justin Lee Collins

I think it was quite a nice idea, although I would have perhaps done more online to build buzz prior to the event.  But anyway, I’m sure the ‘world record’ will provide a soft news story, and so this might make a few papers tomorrow, just in time for the show’s premiere on the weekend. On that note, I’m slightly regretting my proximity to Justin (watch vid of the photoshoot below!)

The WOW Toys website is now live!

WOW Toys homepage

Graphic Alliance has designed and developed a new interactive website for WOW Toys, the toy company renowned for good quality and attention to detail. The new website aims to increase understanding and knowledge about what makes a WOW toy special. It also builds brand identity, increases awareness and will grow with the brand to enable future development.

Built entirely in WordPress, the website appeals to a variety of visitors and combines an intuitive, interactive navigation, as well as a more traditional, linear navigation for those who do not wish to interact.

WOW Toys

Although the website is not a transactional eCommerce site, it aims to showcase and provide as much information as possible for each product so that the visitor is able to click though to a retailer and make an informed purchase. Each product is categorized into its own ‘WOW World’ and sits against an on-brand backdrop brimming with fun WOW features. The immersive brand experience continues through to each product page, where icons, sliding tabs, plenty of imagery and information brings every toy to life while explaining the individual functions, features and benefits.

We loved working on WOW and hope you enjoy it just as much!

The Kensington Phillimore Estate website is now live

The Phillimore Estate

A new website for the Phillimore Estate in Kensington, London is now live. The website aims to not only provide useful information for all residents of the Estate, but also to facilitate communication between the Estate and its tenants, build the brand, raise awareness and act as a marketing tool for the available properties on the Estate.

The website also includes the rich history and heritage of the Estate plus a wealth of local area information presented in an elegant manner, using beautiful photography from the surrounding area.

The entire site is managed using the Graphic Alliance Content Management System which enables non-technical people to create, publish and manage all types of content while keeping the brand consistent and uniform across the site.

Because… We love it!

because magazine jewellery

Earlier this week we wrote a post on 5 of the best WordPress plugins. Just so you know, WordPress is a blog publishing application and content management system – and we love it! So, when our friends at Tank came to talk to us about their new digital fashion magazine built entirely in WordPress, we couldn’t wait to get stuck in.

If you’ve not seen Because yet, either online or in NMA’s site inspection feature, go check it out. It’s a digital magazine which offers the very best in fashion, accessories, beauty, jewellery and culture and has been quoted by NMA as being “high-end fashion pornography… Because magazine is a beautiful fashion and culture click-to-buy site”.

So, how was it created? Well, the entire site was implemented in WordPress and modified using a wide range of plugins. However, because they came to us with a set of specific needs, some extra modification was required. All user account creation and management functionality was skinned from the front end – which includes the login, registration, and profile pages. Logged in users can also save their favourite items to a personal wishlist so that they can go back to lust over their favourite items again and again!

“As good as it gets from your desk”?

Temperley London

Upon launch, the new eCommerce website for Temperley London, the British designer label synonymous with timeless glamour, exquisite craftsmanship and collections desired by women the all over the world, was received by a number of fabulous reviews from the online fashion world;

“Plenty of sartorial surprise in store… get ready for the virtual stampede” (Vogue)

But first, let’s take a closer look at how this was achieved…

Objectives:

Firstly, a unique online destination shop had to be created, entirely different to other fashion and luxury brand websites. Secondly, best practice eCommerce functionality had to be seamlessly integrated into the Temperley brand experience. Thirdly, the customer journey had to reflect Alice Temperley’s aesthetic and the distinct style of the stores in London, Los Angeles and New York.

How we achieved them:

Within the new website, all items are displayed using an unconventional but intuitive carousel, designed with traditional rails in mind and far removed from the ‘grid’ layouts of many other online shops. Select a product from a collection/category and a wealth of content appears in scrapbook style including catwalk video, detail views, red carpet shots and design inspiration. All of this supporting media can be viewed in astonishing detail using a full-screen high-resolution product zoom, especially developed for this project.

Items can then be easily added to ‘My Rail’ without disrupting the browsing experience before either purchasing or saving for next time. A special section entitled “We Like” features Alice Temperley’s vacation photos, behind-the-scenes video footage, styling tips and music recommendations. Online visitors can also get a sneak preview of upcoming projects, see footage documenting the creative process behind the collections, and read updates and interviews which offers a unique insight into the world of Temperley.

The result:

Graphic Alliance has brought the world of Temperley to life on screen by re-creating a flash-style website using javascipt and HTML. The customer journey is unconventional yet intuitive; innovative horizontal navigation manages to maintain usability whilst maximising functionality. A huge amount of interactive content – all fully searchable and accessible by the search engines – accompanies each of the individual products and collections.

Stuart Bowler, Project Director at Graphic Alliance, said:

“the real innovation with this site is the way that all of the background supporting media, telling the brand story, has been directly associated with the products. With four collections, well over 100 runway looks, and over 600 SKUs, this has required some intense rewriting of the way eCommerce data works.”

Additional reviews:

“Browsing the new website almost compares to seeing the clothes in person, and that’s as good as it gets from your desk” (Teen Vogue)

“The latest (and very exciting) addition to the internet is here!” (Glamchic)

“The fashionista’s favourite” (Grazia)
